SCHROON — A Bronx man was arrested on felony charges after a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
New York State Police reported that at 3:21 p.m. a trooper recorded a 1999 Chrysler Concorde with a New Jersey registration allegedly driving north at 82 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone on Interstate 87 in the Town of Schroon.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver and sole occupant was identified as Edward M. Rodriguez, 29, of Bronx, New York, according to police reports. A license check indicated that Rodriguez’s driving privileges were suspended in New York state.
After further investigation established that the vehicle had been reported stolen, Rodriguez was arrested and the vehicle was impounded. A search of the vehicle located a black duffle bag in the trunk containing approximately one ounce of crack cocaine.
Rodriguez was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies. He also received vehicle and traffic charges.
Rodriguez was arraigned in Schroon Town Court before Town Justice Jean Strothenke and committed to the Essex County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
