PLATTSBURGH — Preliminary autopsy results show Wayne C. Cashman and Ann Marie Cashman both died of gunshot wounds, Plattsburgh City Police said Tuesday.
Mr. Cashman died of a single gunshot wound and Mrs. Cashman died of multiple gunshot wounds, Plattsburgh City Police Chief Desmond Racicot said Tuesday.
The autopsies were performed by Dr. Jolie Rodriguez at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Mr. Cashman, 63, shot his wife, who was 61, and then killed himself early Monday.
At about 5:10 a.m., after finding a note at the Cashmans’ home that said “murder call 911,” a Press-Republican delivery person notified authorities.
Officers found Mrs. Cashman’s body in the bedroom of the 79 Maryland Road residence and another note directing them to the Plattsburgh City Marina parking lot, where they found Mr. Cashman, police said.
However, the autopsies won’t be finalized for weeks, the chief said.
Racicot said police would not release details Tuesday on further contents of the note that Mr. Cashman left inside the home or information about a possible motive.
That may or may not be released in the future, he said.
“It’s obviously a very tragic situation,” Racicot said. “It’s our responsibility to investigate it ... but we also have to remember that there’s family members left behind.”
“We do the proper job and try to get an understanding (of what happened) to the family members.”
Detectives are continuing the investigation, he said.
