AUSABLE FORKS — The cause of a fire that badly damaged a detached garage at 14098 Route 9N in AuSable Forks had not been determined Friday.
AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Cross said that to his knowledge, the fire is not considered suspicious.
The Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze at about 9:50 p.m. Thursday, Cross said.
“The crews, they had experience smoke inside and it was just getting ready to peak out when they got there.”
But firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze fairly quickly, he said.
The property is owned by the McLean family, Cross said.
The garage sustained severe smoke and heat damage, he said.
Cross was unsure whether they have insurance and it was unknown who lives in the home that is situation on the same lot as the garage.
There was no damage to the house and no one was injured, he said.
The fire started in the back of the garage, the chief said.
Providing mutual aid at the fire site was the Jay Volunteer Fire Department and the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at AuSable Forks’ station.
The AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department was back in service at about 12:30 a.m.
This was the third structure fire the firefighters at Cross’s department responded to on Thursday.
“It was a busy day for them,” he said. “They did an outstanding job.”
The other two fires were at 342 Nelson Road in AuSable Forks and 58 Lower Road in Keeseville, where the AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department responded as mutual aid, Cross said.
