Police Log: May 24, 2013 — Felony arrest


---- — TUPPER LAKE — Two Tupper Lake men were arrested after someone allegedly heard one of them trying to force his way into a local business, police say.

Andrew P. Demers, 25, and Matthew A. Beeman, 25, both of Tupper Lake, were arrested at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Tupper Lake Police said.

It is alleged that someone outside Maroun’s Clothing, located at 22 Main St. in the Village of Tupper Lake, heard Demers trying to break into the business, police said.

Demers fled to a car driven by Beeman, police said.

The pair were pulled over by Tupper Lake Police soon after.

Demers was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, a felony; possession of burglary tools, a misdemeanor; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Tupper Lake Village Court and sent to Franklin County Jail for lack of of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, police said.

Demers is scheduled to return to court June 17.

Beeman was charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony, as well as four traffic infractions: failure to comply with a lawful order, driving an uninspected motor vehicle, two counts of improper turn without a signal and failure to keep right.

He was arraigned in Tupper Lake Village Court and was released after he posted $2,000 bail.

Beeman is due back in court June 17.
