PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was arrested Tuesday on criminal contempt charges.

At about 1 p.m., a Plattsburgh City Police officer saw Gary Burgoyne, 31, in a vehicle with his girlfriend, Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.

The officer knew Burgoyne by sight and knew a stay-away order of protection was in place prohibiting Burgoyne from being in the presence of his girlfriend, Beebie said.

The officer confirmed that the order was valid and arrested Burgoyne on Saranac Street in the City of Plattsburgh, the lieutenant said.

Burgoyne was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony.

He was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court and was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.

Burgoyne will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

PLATTSBURGH — Two local men were charged with felonies after one allegedly stole a purse out of a vehicle.

Dustin A. Provost, 28, of Plattsburgh allegedly stole a purse out of a car parked in Salerno Plastics Corporation parking lot in Plattsburgh, according to Plattsburgh-based State Police.

Provost then allegedly gave a credit card from the purse to Lance J. Layhee, 46, of Morrisonville, police said.

Layhee allegedly used the card to make a purchase, police said.

The incident was reported to police earlier this month, according to a State Police blotter entry.

Provost was arrested June 14 and was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (credit card), a felony.

He was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

Layhee was arrested June 13 and was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (credit card), a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

No further information was available.

ELIZABETHTOWN — A Westport man was charged May 31 with fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal tampering.

Travis N. Smith, 33, allegedly stole computer hardware from a store in the Town of Elizabethtown, according to Lewis-based State Police.

The incident was reported to State Police on Aug. 15, 2012, according to a State Police blotter entry.

Smith was arrested May 31 at 7544 Court St., according to the blotter entry.

Smith was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and third-degree criminal tampering, a misdemeanor.

No further information was available.
