CONDITION UPDATE
PLATTSBURGH — After spending more than a month in the hospital, a Lyon Mountain teen is back home and in good spirits.

Dylon Belair was brought to Fletcher Allen Health Care in mid-October after his muzzleloader accidentally discharged and sent a bullet ripping into his foot.

The 14-year-old was hunting with his father when the gun discharged and sent him to the hospital for a 41-day stay.

Belair was released from the Burlington hospital last Wednesday and was able to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his family.

He continues to recover from the injury and still has to undergo additional procedures.

FELONY ARREST
CHAMPLAIN — A Canadian woman was taken into custody earlier this week as a fugitive from justice.

According to Chazy-based State Police, Isalia Balbuena was picked up Monday afternoon when she attempted to cross the Champlain Port of Entry, and border officials found that she was wanted on a larceny charge out of Indiana.

The 27-year-old was still being held at the Clinton County Jail Tuesday morning awaiting extradition.

FEDERAL SENTENCING
ALBANY — A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for trying to transport child porn through the area.

Jeremy Houde, 30, was taken into custody in April 2007 when he tried to get into the country through the Champlain crossing and was found to have several computer disks containing images of young females engaging in sexual acts.

Federal prosecutors said law-enforcement officials found an array of other child pornography when they searched Houde's home after his arrest.

Houde later pleaded guilty to one count of transporting child pornography and returned to court Tuesday for sentencing.

In addition to prison, a judge ordered Houde to serve 10 years of supervised release and said he must participate in sex-offender programs.

Houde now cannot have unsupervised contact with minors and must register with the New York State Sex-Offender Registry.

DEER SHOOTING
TICONDEROGA — A local man was arrested Tuesday evening, accused by state Department of Environmental Conservation officers of shooting a deer from inside a truck.

Keort Morse, 24, faces three misdemeanors and two violations for allegedly taking an illegal doe, doing so from a public roadway and having a loaded firearm in a vehicle. Ticonderoga Police, who responded to the initial call, said the man shot from the center seat of a stopped truck, with a driver and passenger on either side.

One of the other men tried to pull the deer to the side of the road while the others circled the block. When the men returned, police were waiting to arrest Morse.

Morse was released on tickets that require him to appear in Ticonderoga court Dec. 17.
