FELONY ARRESTS CHAMPLAIN — A Brooklyn man is accused of trying to enter the country with more than 10 pounds of marijuana.
At about 2:47 p.m. Sunday, a bus reportedly came to the Champlain Port of Entry on its way into the United States. All passengers on the bus were sent into the main customs building for processing, and all passenger bags were taken off the bus.
A K9 alerted Customs and Border Patrol agents to a bag that possibly contained marijuana, according to Chazy-based State Police. The passengers were told to claim their baggage before getting back on the bus.
Police said Garry S. Dorcelus, 31, attempted to pick up two bags that did not belong to him. After the bags were claimed by the actual owners, Dorcelus reportedly paced on the sidewalk looking for his bags and then got on the bus without claiming any.
Customs and Border Patrol agents found items in the bag in question that were apparently linked to Dorcelus, and he was brought back off the bus for questioning.
Agents also allegedly found 11.7 pounds of marijuana in the bag.
Dorcelus was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court.
He was sent to Clinton County Jail and reappeared in Town of Plattsburgh Court at 4 p.m. Monday.
Dorcelus was released Monday night after posting $20,000 cash bail.
PLATTSBURGH — A Keeseville man is facing a felony charge of driving while intoxicated.
James M. Liberty, 48, was stopped on Beekman Street by Plattsburgh-based State Police at about 6:03 p.m. Sunday.
He was subsequently charged with a felony because he has a previous DWI conviction within the last 10 years, according to police records.
No further information was available Monday night.
DANNEMORA — A Queens woman is accused of attempting to smuggle prescription drugs and marijuana into Clinton Correctional Facility.
Ginamarie F. Poma, 24, was arrested at 11:50 a.m. Sunday on charges of fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance; and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Plattsburgh-based State Police said that Poma came to the prison and attempted to bring in pills and a small amount of marijuana.
She was arraigned and sent to Clinton County Jail, where Sunday she posted $2,500 cash bail.
