MALONE -- A Potsdam man was arrested Thursday night when he allegedly tried to cross a local border with illegal prescriptions and marijuana.

Malone-based State Police arrested Randy Farns around 11 p.m. Thursday after he drove the wrong way up to the Trout River Port of Entry.

When he bypassed the Canadian inspection, U.S. officials questioned him and soon allegedly found a small quantity of painkillers and marijuana inside his vehicle.

The 43-year-old was arrested on a felony charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug and for the violation offense of unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was later sent to the Franklin County Jail on $2,500 bail, which he posted by midday Friday.

Farns will appear in court at a later date to face the charges.
