PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENT

MOIRA -- Two local teens sustained minor cuts and bruises after brake failure sent their vehicle crashing into several trees Tuesday evening.

According to Malone-based State Police, Alyssa Laflesh of Burke was driving west on the Patterson Road around 6:30 p.m. when she was unable to slow her vehicle and barreled into several trees along the rural roadside.

The 16-year-old driver and a passenger, Brittany Razis, whose age and address were not available Wednesday afternoon, were transported to Adirondack Medical Center after the accident. They were both later treated and released from the hospital.

No additional information about the accident was available.

CONDITION UPDATE

PLATTSBURGH -- Two drivers remain in critical condition after their vehicles collided on Route 374 early Tuesday morning.

Both Mary Gillen, 47, of Morrisonville and Dale Steele, 70, of Sandy Creek were seriously injured after Steele allegedly swerved his 2003 GMC to avoid a deer and collided with Gillen's oncoming Honda around 5:50 a.m.

The collision sent Gillen's car spinning down the state roadway while Steele's vehicle crashed into a nearby guard rail and overturned onto the driver's side door.

Local EMS transported both drivers to CVPH Medical Center, where Gillen was listed in stable, but critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Steele, who was later ticketed for failing to keep right, was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday.

FELONY ARREST

DANNEMORA -- A New York City Police Department school safety officer is now behind bars after she allegedly attempted to smuggle marijuana into Clinton Correctional Facility Sunday morning.

According to State Police, Everette Baskin was attempting to visit an inmate with her 13-year-old son when she was questioned by officials and voluntarily surrendered 105 grams of marijuana that she allegedly hid inside seven balloons in her underwear.

The 43-year-old Brooklyn woman was then arrested for first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony, endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.
