PLATTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old is behind bars for allegedly attempting to derail a train last month.

Francis Fournier is being held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond in connection with the April 7 incident on the Canadian-Pacific railroad tracks in Plattsburgh.

He returned to Plattsburgh City Court with his attorney, Daniel Gaudreau, earlier this week to face the string of charges, which include first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and petit larceny, but his cases were adjourned until next week.

City Police allege that Fournier stole pieces of a bracket assembly from the city Municipal Lighting Department and then threw them on the tracks, where they were crushed by an oncoming train.

He is also accused of tossing a discarded piece of railroad tracks onto the tracks in an attempt to "derail the train."

According to court documents, Founier initially denied participating in the crime, landing himself an additional charge of making a false written statement, but later admitted to his actions.
