CHAMPLAIN -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials arrested a South Carolina murder suspect when he returned to the country Tuesday morning.
Roger Eugene Shepherd fled to Canada shortly after a June 2006 murder of a pawn-shop owner in South Carolina and is considered a prime suspect in the armed robbery and murder.
The 21-year-old was later apprehended by Canadian authorities and challenged extradition back to South Carolina where he faces charges of murder, assault with intent to kill, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
After exhausting all Canadian Immigration refugee claims, he was turned over Canadian Border Services Agency officials for transport to the local border, where he was arrested and turned over to the United States Marshals Service.
