PLATTSBURGH — He’s back for your back and other chiropractic needs.
Dr. Jonathan Mulholland opened his new chiropractic practice, The Ideal Athlete, on Oct. 7. It is located at 42 U.S. Oval, just south of the City of Plattsburgh Recreation Center.
The practice is in the former chaplain’s residence at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Renovations of the two-story brick building with hardwood floors took a couple months.
“It’s got character,” he said.
Location an asset
It’s an ideal location next to the Rec Center, and also has great views of the youth soccer and football fields on the interior of the Oval.
While Mulholland specializes in care for athletes, he said any patient is welcome. He is also offering running-analysis sessions and high-end personal-training services for a limited number of clients, a kind of triathlon of athletic care.
“I’m trying to do something unique to the North Country,” he said. “I think I bring a unique skill set to the table.”
Mulholland had a practice in Plattsburgh until 2009. He later spent two years working as the Sports Medicine and Performance Enhancement consultant for the New Zealand Olympic Cycling Team, including at the London Olympics.
“I’ve really picked up some new skills the last few years,” he said.
The running analysis is ideal for recreational runners, children and high-school-age runners, triathletes and competitive runners and even walkers. Based on the client, it could involve high-definition video analysis, running-technique drills, three-dimensional foot scans, movement screening, personalized exercises, custom strength and mobility drills and more.
That contract ended shortly after the games, and he then took a year off to search for the ideal location for the new practice.
“I spent the time to find an office location that fit my personality,” Mulholland said.
