P'burgh City Beach to open soon

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh City Beach will celebrate its official opening weekend Saturday, June 14, with music, food and activities.

The day will be full of events, beginning with the Champlain Valley Family Center 5K FWD for Recovery Road Race starting at 9 a.m. (registration at 8 a.m.).

This inaugural 5KWalk/Run at the Plattsburgh City Beach raises funds for Champlain Valley Family Center Youth programming.

The North Country Chamber of Commerce will hold its 16th-annual Great Adirondack Car Show, Craft Fair and Giant Garage Sale at the Crete Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The beach officially opens at 10 a.m. Staff and volunteers from the Imaginarium Children’s Museum will be on hand with crafts and activities for kids.

Joe Kovacs from Smooth Moves will cook up a barbecue offering beach food and smoothies, while the Cabana Beach Bar will provide a beer garden.

The City Recreation Department will host a 2-on-2 beach volleyball tournament in the afternoon.

Throughout the day, there will be music provided by Social Relief, leading up to a performance by the band Lucid from 5 to 8 p.m.

There will be a bonfire on the beach from 6 until 9:30 p.m.

“The groundswell of volunteers and community pride that’s been generated is impressive,” Steve Peters, superintendent of recreation, said in a news release.

“Highlighting the beach is a perfect way to get our residents and visitors out to enjoy nature and the beauty that our waterfront provides.”
