Vesco Ridge Vineyard adds new space

INGRAHAM — From vine to wine, the views are fine.

Nancy and Dan Vesco of Vesco Ridge Vineyards have a new winery and tasting room that sits atop its namesake ridge in the Town of Chazy hamlet of Ingraham.

Measuring about 1,800 square feet, it is almost double the size of the previous one. The tasting room features a long counter, tile floors, hardwood ceiling and scenic views of the surrounding lands, including the 500-vine vineyard.

“It’s amazing how fast this has grown,” Dan said.

When they built their previous home, he took the opportunity to install a wine rack in the basement. He then started making wine from kits in 2006.

That soon expanded, as he began to use local grapes to make his own wine. The Vescos then decided to take the operation commercial and received a license to have a farm winery in 2010, which allows them to sell wine by the glass or bottle.

At the time, the full-scale wine-making operation was in the basement, and a spare room was converted to a tasting room.

They started to build the new winery in 2012 and completed that work earlier this year. They plan to add a small deck so visitors can have space to relax with a glass or bottle of wine.

OPEN HOUSE

Two of the Vesco Ridge wines won awards at the 2013 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition: Dan’s 2011 Farm Truck Red and 2011 Diamond, a white wine.

He harvested the first grapes from the on-site vines last year, with the first wine available from them next year.

The Vescos are hosting a grand re-opening from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. The vineyard is located at 167 Stratton Hill Road, off Route 9.

The event will feature free wine tastings as well as wine cupcakes by Karen Davis of Kreative Konfectionz and chocolates and chocolate sangria from Mimi Dixon of Dove Chocolate Discoveries.
