Saranac Lake Chamber gives annual awards

SARANAC LAKE — Melinda Little was lauded as Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year for 2013-14.

“With her hard work and dedication to the community, it’s not hard to see why she is so deserving of this recognition,” a media release said.

“Little has dedicated herself to a number of local organizations over the years. Most notably, she has dedicated her time and talents to the Community Store.”

Little wrote the original business plan for the store and serves as board president.

She has held a spot on the Tri-Lakes Humane Society Board for the past six years, serving as treasurer and now president of the Tri-Lakes Humane Society and also has a seat on the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism Board.

She is also director of Point Positive, an angel investment group looking to fund startup businesses within the Adirondack Park.

“Melinda Little is an active and dedicated member of this community who has completed numerous wonderful initiatives to improve Saranac Lake,” the release said.

Daffest founder Cherrie Sayles was named 2013-14 Volunteer of the Year.

“Cherrie is an extremely energetic member of this community and is constantly volunteering her time and energy to better the community,” a press release said.

And a big part of that effort is to see 1 million daffodil bulbs planted throughout the village to highlight the annual festival.

Daffest first bloomed mostly with local participation, the release said, “however, over the years has gained popularity and as a result has increased our spring tourism season.”

Sayles, a recent recipient of the Liberty Bell Commission Award from the Franklin County Bar Association, has owned several businesses throughout the years in Saranac Lake.

She presently owns Say Real Estate.

The chamber’s Business of the Year is Cape Air.
