Yipes enjoys new location

PLATTSBURGH — Yipes Auto Accessories and Graphics has moved to a new location that has greatly increased visibility and accessibility.

Owner Jack Helfgott said the new location at 6 Trade Road is on Route 22 near the intersection of Route 374 and easily accessible from Exit 38 of Interstate 87. About 8,000 vehicles a day pass by the new location, which will become even more visible once he installs new signs.

"We moved in here June 16. It's all coming along very well," he said.

FORMERLY AT SKYWAY

The old location was tucked into a back corner of the Skyway Plaza property and was very difficult to find, even with directions.

The graphics side of the business, which includes automotive as well as store and advertising banners, continues to increase. The new shop features a glass-enclosed work area for the graphics department, where designers can meet with clients, develop the product and then bring it out to the shop for application.

Onyx spray-on bedliners remain a big seller. The new location offered a chance to improve the spray booth used in that process, with better ventilation and easily replaceable ceiling tiles and lighting covers.

Remote car starters continue to sell well even in summer, as people like the ability to have the air conditioning running before they get into their vehicle.

Tonneau covers and rain guards are also popular add-on accessories. Heated seat sales are also going well.

"We can put them in any car," Helfgott said.

The audio display area will soon get a total makeover to make it a more interactive, user-friendly area.

Yipes also offers installation and calibration of ignition interlock devices for SmartStart.

"That business continues to grow," he said.

SPECIALIST SOUGHT

Helfgott said he is looking to hire an experienced window-tint specialist on either a full-time or part-time basis.
