TICONDEROGA — Organizers of Ticonderoga’s Best Fourth in the North are hoping a big fundraiser will generate some of the almost $30,000 they need for this year’s event.
The Best Fourth in the North Committee is planning other events and coin drops and is seeking private donations for the celebration July 1 through 4.
The main fundraiser is the upcoming Best Fourth in the North Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at The Pub on Montcalm Street in downtown Ticonderoga.
Another event, the Ticonderoga Alumni Basketball Tournament, will be held earlier on the same day at the Ticonderoga High School gym, starting at 11 a.m., committee member Robert C. Dedrick said.
“We always get a good turnout for the tournament,” he said. “It’s a popular event in the community.”
Last year’s tourney raised $630 from admissions and team fees.
The proceeds from both events will go to the Best Fourth in the North celebration, event Chair Debbie Barber said, and are tax-deductible.
“We encourage people to participate in as many fundraisers for the Fourth of July Celebration as possible,” she said in an email. “Without the support of our area businesses and community, this celebration we all enjoy, which has become a Ticonderoga tradition, can’t be held.”
She said they really appreciate the support from The Pub.
“Most of the $25,000 to $30,000 cost of this event is raised by the committee. The Pub also let us hold our last fundraiser, Ring in the New Year, there.”
Barber said guest celebrity bartenders will be at the event at The Pub, and their tips will also go to the celebration.
“The Best Fourth in the North is a celebration that attracts many visitors to the Ticonderoga area, and it supports local businesses and the local economy,” Barber said.
