Bayside Chimney and Stoves expands

Available stove and fireplace lines include Pacific Energy, Hudson River Stove Works, Majestic, Napoleon, U.S. Stove and Piazzetta. Bayside Chimney carries some accessories, but Bibeau said he can easily order anything he doesn’t have in inventory.

Bibeau originally operated the business out of his home, but moved to its present location about three years ago. The new space has allowed for a visually pleasing display room with stoves, fireplaces and examples of masonry work.

Bayside Chimney has four employees during the slow time of year, which he said is February, March and April. The rest of the year, there are usually six to eight on staff.

The company covers a territory that includes Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties as well as parts of northern Vermont. It has a fleet of three service vehicles available year-round.

Bibeau said he grew up in Chazy and Rouses Point. After he graduated from St. Johns Academy in Plattsburgh, Bibeau received a two-year degree in marketing from Broome Community College in Binghamton and a four-year degree in economics and finance form SUNY Empire State College.

He landed a job at Wyeth in Rouses Point and started Bayside Chimney as Wyeth and then Pfizer started downsizing. He worked mornings at the new business and evenings at Wyeth until he finally decided to make his new occupation a full-time job.

Along the way, he spent two weeks at the Chimney Safety Institute in Indianapolis for training and certification, which requires a score of 80 percent or more on a final exam. Continued certification requires meeting continuing-education standards and a periodic re-examination.

Bibeau said he also belongs to a group of 11 companies in the same line of business. The group meets twice a year at one of the member businesses to critique that company’s operation, with Bayside Chimney to host one meeting in 2015.

The office and showroom are open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. Bayside Chimney offers free estimates.

Payment can be by cash, check or credit card.
