New store coming to Champlain Centre

PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Centre mall is getting a new shoe store — and it’s a big one.

Designer Shoe Warehouse, known as DSW, will move into a large space between Crazy 8 and PacSun.

The new store will be created out of the vacant Christopher & Banks store and the location now used by Fye, Champlain Centre Marketing Director Courtney Coryea told the Press-Republican.

The shoe store is expected to open in the early fall.

“DSW is another best-in-category tenant we are bringing to the mall,” Champlain Centre General Manager David Napolitan said in a statement.

“The store offers a fabulous combination of assortment, convenience and value. With more than 15,000 pairs of shoes expected to be carried, shoppers are going to have a fun time making their decisions.”

DSW offers customers a reward system — members earn points toward $10 certificates.

“DSW focuses on spreading shoe love and providing the best shoe shopping experience possible,” Coryea said in a news release.

“As a leading branded footwear and accessories retailer, DSW offers a wide selection of brand-name and designer dress, casual and athletic footwear and accessories for women, men and kids — the destination for fabulous brands at a great value every single day.”

According to the company website, DSW had 394 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico as of Dec. 4, 2013. The first store opened in 1991 in Dublin, Ohio.

The company reported total adjusted revenues of $571 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013, down 3.9 percent from the previous year.

Signs at the Fye music and video store state that it is having a moving sale and will announce a new location soon. The manager told the Press-Republican to contact its parent company, Albany-based Trans World Entertainment, for more information.

Trans World Chief Financial Officer John Anderson said Thursday afternoon that the last day of business for the current Fye in Plattsburgh will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, but that they do hope to reopen in the mall.
