PLATTSBURGH — Mark P. Sidoti has been hired as account executive with PrimeLink, according to Greg MacConnell, president and general manager.

Sidoti brings more than 20 years of diversified business and sales experience to the telecommunications company. He was most recently an account executive with Time Warner Cable Business Class serving the North Country Region. Prior to this, Sidoti held positions in the insurance and payroll industries serving Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.

He has a degree in business administration and has been very active in a number of local North Country organizations including the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, ARCC Membership Committeeand Adirondack Business Council. Sidoti also served as an ambassador for the ARCC and has been active in the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce.

In the role of account executive, Sidoti will be instrumental in the development of new business customers in Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.

PrimeLink was established in 1997 and is a full-service telecommunications company providing a wide array of advanced telecommunications services, including local and long-distance telephone service and broadband Internet access for business customers. PrimeLink gives its customers access to some of the most advanced communications services through its fiber-optic network and continues to introduce products and technology that lead the industry.

PrimeLink recently opened an office in the Glens Falls area and is now offering services to business customers in Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.

Practitioner hired

ELIZABETHTOWN — Nurse Practitioner Katherine Bezio has joined Elizabethtown Community Hospital’s Chemotherapy and Infusion Department. The hospital began offering chemotherapy services along with infusions of bone-strengthening medications, treatment for multiple sclerosis, platelet transfusions and IV antibiotics in 2009.

Bezio is responsible for developing and managing patient treatment plans, with support from hospital staff and under the guidance of patients’ oncologists. She will also be responsible for administering chemotherapy treatments and meeting with patients for their follow-up visits. She is in contact with oncologists on a regular basis to confer about patient treatment plans and their progress.

“I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to help local patients with these incredibly important treatments,” she said. “This hospital is very progressive, technologically advanced and very forward-thinking. Patients are so pleased when they learn that they don’t have to travel far for chemotherapy or other infusion services.”

The hospital’s telemedicine program links the patient and nurse practitioner at ECH with an oncologist many miles away using a high-definition video link. The NP and MD are able to collaborate regarding the patient’s care and the patient can discuss treatment options and concerns. The hospital’s lab performs all necessary testing and pharmacists prepare medications, as ordered.

Bezio has extensive experience working as a nurse practitioner and RN for a number of medical groups in both Maine and upstate New York. During her educational career, she provided support to University of Vermont and University of Southern Maine research staff, gaining experience in a number of clinical settings including pediatrics, women’s health, urgent care and family practice. She also worked with many patients to help manage their chronic health conditions.

She attended McGill University in Montreal where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in physiology. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a master’s in nursing and obtained her national certification as a nurse practitioner in May 2009.

New board member

PLATTSBURGH — Arrow Financial Corporation has announced the election of Colin Read to its Board of Directors by a vote of shareholders at the company’s annual meeting on May 1. He replaces longtime director Herbert Carpenter who retired from the Arrow board earlier this month.

In addition to this new role with Arrow, Read will continue to serve as a director for subsidiary Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co., a position he has held since 2010.

A tenured full professor at SUNY Plattsburgh, Read has a weekly business column for the Plattsburgh Press-Republican, has authored eight books on global finance, is a regular contributor to Bloomberg’s online magazine and American Bankers Association publications, and appears monthly on a regional PBS business and economics show. He is also president of Economic Insights Consulting Inc., co-founder of Vision2Action and co-owner of North Star Vineyard and Champlain Wine Company.

Read serves on the boards of Community Providers Inc., the North Country Investment Fund, Fletcher Allen Partners, Champlain Telephone Co. and PrimeLink.

He has a Ph.D. in economics from Queen’s University, an MBA from the University of Alaska, a JD in law from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Accountancy in Taxation from the University of Tulsa.

Manager appointed

DANNEMORA — Effective May 1, Dannemora Federal Credit Union President Randall Martin has named Staci Blair branch manager of the Credit Union’s Tom Miller Road location. Blair has been with the Credit Union for more than 11 years and has held several positions including teller, head teller and, most recently, member service representative. In addition to these roles, she has been a loan clerk since 2004.

Blairi holds an AAS degree from Clinton County Community College. In addition, she has continued to attend training that is beneficial to her career at the Credit Union.

Also, during the month of April, Dannemora Federal Credit Union sold suns and moons in their four branch lobbies in support of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. On April 26, DFCU employees sponsored Relay for Life for their monthly Jean Day Program (all employees paid $5 to wear jeans to work and the total raised was matched by the Board of Representatives). The total donation was $589.

On April 27, the Credit Union sent a team to the Autism Alliance Walk at the Oval in Plattsburgh. Team members donated a total of $879 through contributions from friends, family members, DFCU members and the matching of the DFCU Board of Representatives.

Course completed

PLATTSBURGH — Andrew Beach of Taylor Rental in Plattsburgh has completed the 20-week-long course for the American Welding Society.

Beach is now certified as a welder, welding operator and tack welder. By passing all the qualified tests, he will benefit Taylor Rental with fabrication and repairs.

Beach has been with Taylor Rental for five years and serves the company in Plattsburgh and their newest location in Saranac Lake.

Food drive

PLATTSBURGH — Maurices of Champlain Centre in Plattsburgh is holding a food drive to benefit the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf.

”While we participate in a number of Maurices-sponsored benefits throughout the year, we are especially proud when we have the opportunity to support causes right here at home,” said Store Manager Kendra Taro.

The food drive begins on Saturday, June 1, and continues through Sunday, June 30. Customers can drop off their donations any time during store hours, which are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Items needed include non-perishable food items.

For each donation, people will receive a coupon for 20 percent off any one regular-priced Maurices item. Maurices offers clothing and accessories for fashion-savvy young women in sizes 1 to 18. Today, Maurices operates more than 833 stores in 46 states and Canada.

Appreciation Day

PLATTSBURGH — The Margaret Street Office of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. will host a Community Appreciation Day on Friday featuring food, giveaways and fund-raising activities to benefit military support organizations.

Festivities are planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the branch, located at 25 Margaret Street in downtown Plattsburgh. There will be free hot dogs and chips, document shredding, hand-held flags in honor of Memorial Day, a military humvee, a bounce house and face-painting. In addition, the VA Clinic and American Legion Post 20 will be on-site to raise awareness about their organizations.

Fundraising activities to support local causes will include a raffle for dinner and movie certificates, courtesy of Ground Round, to benefit Warriors Family Assistance, and a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. Old flags will also be collected by the American Legion to be properly retired during a Flag Day ceremony June 14.

Network expanded

NICHOLVILLE — Slic Network Solutions, a fiber-to-the-home provider located in rural upstate New York, surpassed the 3,000 customer mark on May 1. Slic is nearing the completion of 800 miles of fiber-optic cable network throughout Franklin and St. Lawrence counties with only a handful of roads in the eastern region remaining.

The expansion, funded largely by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) totaling more than $33 million, will pass more than 6,000 homes. A portion of the funding was earmarked for IPTV service. Slic’s IPTV service, myEVTV.com, delivers video content over fiber-optic cable to set-top boxes in customers’ homes.

When combined with their broadband Internet, the fastest available in their service areas, and crystal-clear phone service, Slic enters the “triple-play” market to provide rural customers with high-quality solutions from a single hard-wired provider.

Award received

LAKE PLACID — The Empire State Development Division of Tourism, which administers the I LOVE NY program, was a co-recipient along with Ski Areas of New York Inc. (SANY) and the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) of the 2013 Tourism Excellence Award for Tourism Promotion at the 7th Annual I LOVE NEW YORK Empire State Tourism Conference held at the Conference and Events Center in Niagara Falls on May 2.

The co-recipients were selected by an independent judging panel of the New York State Travel and Vacation Association (NYSTVA) in recognition of their collaborative “NYS 10-10-10” program to promote skiing in New York State.

“Gov. Cuomo recognizes the importance of travel to the state’s economy and has made tourism a top priority of his administration,” said Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Kenneth Adams. “Congratulations to our team at I LOVE NEW YORK and our partners at Ski Areas of New York and ORDA for developing a program which created many affordable introductions to New York State’s ski areas.”

The nomination for entities with operating budgets over $500,000 was submitted by Liz Mezzetti, marketing director for ORDA.

As part of the judging process, nominees had to demonstrate planning and implementation of an overall marketing strategy that is creative and innovative and resulted in increased attendance, a public/private partnership, media exposure, website activity and/or consumer response. According to conference Chairperson Suzanne Bixby, the judges selected the NYS 10-10-10 project because it was a model for demonstrating the ease in leveraging public and private partnerships, and for exceeding its goal for number of people buying specially priced lift tickets and skiing in New York.
