75th anniversary

PLATTSBURGH -- Four generations of one family. Twenty-four thousand extended family members. Seventy-five years.

From humble beginnings in the 1930s as Golub's Cash and Carry, the brainchild of Russian immigrant Lewis (Leib) Golub to the Public Service Market/Central Market concept developed by his sons Ben and Bill to what is known today as Price Chopper Supermarkets is celebrating.

With 116 stores in six states, an army of 24,000 plus associates who collectively own more than 50 percent of the company and sales in excess of $3 billion, Price Chopper continues to be a fiercely successful competitor in an industry where few family-managed businesses survive.

Sept. 30 kicks off a public celebration of Price Chopper's 75th anniversary that will span six weeks, extending through Nov. 10. A special 75th anniversary logo has been designed that will be used in television and print advertising as well as on store signage and associate apparel.

Each of the six celebratory weeks will focus on a theme, supported by a detailed public and media relations effort, special content in the weekly ad, marketing and advertising vehicles, unique in-store signage, merchandising and special promotions in the community.

The Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce reminds all area businesses that it is now in the process of updating all listings and information for its 2008 North Country Business Directory and Buyers Guide.

The annual directory is the leading business contact and referral publication in the North Country region, and includes categorical listings of product and service providers with contact names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail. and website addresses. Thousands of copies of the directory are distributed for year-round use by other businesses.

All members of the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber receive one free listing, and may purchase additional category listings for a small fee. In addition to the published directory, these listings are also automatically reflected in the Chamber's on-line Business Directory at www.northcountrychamber.com.

Members are encouraged to return their update forms as soon as possible, verifying and correcting information for 2008 and securing all desired categories. For more information or a new copy of the form, call Melanie Marr at 563-1000.

This is also seen as an excellent time for not-yet-members to consider joining the regional chamber so they will be fully listed and reflected in the 2008 Directory.
