SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — As many as 11,000 homes and businesses in upstate New York are temporarily without power after thunderstorms and strong winds rolled through the region.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for most portions of upstate New York. Gusts reached 40-50 miles per hour in some areas. There's also a lakeshore flood advisory from some areas along Lake Erie in western New York.

National Grid says it has about 7,000 customers without power in central and western New York. Up to 3,500 of those were in the Syracuse area, where authorities say power lines and trees were downed by the overnight storm. There also was one report of a tree falling onto a house with no one injured.

NYSEG says there about 4,500 customers without power in the Buffalo and Finger Lakes regions.
