ELIZABETHTOWN -- Under order of the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court, the Lewis Family Farm Inc. paid $50,000 Monday to the Essex County Clerk's Office.
The funds will be held in a county account by the Treasurer's Office, according to court order, while a jurisdictional dispute between the farm and the Adirondack Park Agency is under legal review in Appellate Court.
In late March, APA's Enforcement Committee heard legal arguments on farmworker housing built with town permits on farm property.
The APA ordered the Lewis Family Farm to obtain permits for two of the houses it had built in the year prior and fined the farm $50,000 for several alleged violations of the Adirondack Park Agency Act.
The farm, owned jointly by Salim "Sandy" and Barbara Lewis, challenged the enforcement decision in State Supreme Court.
The matter goes before the Appellate Division in Albany on Monday, as ordered by Associate Justice Leslie E. Stein, with appearances of attorneys "not permitted."
