---- — The Kings’ Bay Ducks Unlimited Chapter will be holding its 28th-annual membership banquet Saturday, April 20, at the Rainbow Banquet Hall in Altona.
This chapter is one of the longest-running consecutive events in the nation and has raised more than $500,000 in gross revenue, according to a press release.
This year’s event will again be in the White Room at the Banquet Hall and will feature Jane and Peck Sample’s prime rib and stuffed chicken breast dinner.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for cocktails (cash bar) and games, with dinner at 6. The auction/raffles will be taking off at 7 p.m under the direction of longtime auctioneer Kevin Hicks.
An array of Ducks Unlimited collectibles, including many prints, Terry Redlin art and furnishings, will be featured. There will also be 11 guns, including rifles, shotguns, such as the gun of the year, a Fausti Silvery over/under 12 guage shotgun engraved with a unique DU number featuring a silver with gold inlayed receiver and a special hard gun case and interchangeable chokes.
Also featured will be two handguns,a Kimber .45acp with a special DU number and a Heritage Rough Rider rimfire revolver. These guns are in addition to the special “30 Gun Giveaway” that Ducks Unlimited is proud to offer in marking more than 12 million conserved acres and boasting about 600,000 members in North America.
New York has completed about 40,000 acres and is working on projects on Lake Champlain, as well as land projects as close as West Chazy.
Many local artisans help support the chapter with their talents, such as Albert Barcomb Jr., who has handcarved a Cinnamon Teal this year, his 27th carving for the chapter; the Rochester family, who have donated handmade items from paintings to decoys; J.R. Davenport, with his furniture creations, and his wife Cathie, who makes quilts; and Sue Hoke, who for many years has donated a local scene, with an oil on canvas.
The committee is headed up by Area Chairman Rich House, along with many committee members who make the event possible.
