Dennis Aprill
Dennis Aprill has been the Outdoors Columnist for the Press-Republican since 1990. Over that time frame, he has won 10 Outdoor Writers Association of America writing awards, 4 from the Outdoor Writers of Canada, and 15 writing and photography awards from the New York Outdoor Writers Association. In 2003, Aprill was named the New York State Council of Trout Unlimiteds Communicator of the Year.
Besides writing for the Press-Republican, Aprill is the Adirondack Columnist for Vermont Outdoors Magazine and a regular contributor to Adirondack Life. He has 4 books out: Short Treks in the Adirondacks and Beyond, Paths Less Traveled, Good Fishing in the Adirondacks (Editor and contributor), and Mammals of the Adirondacks (Co-Author).
In addition to his writing, Aprill is an active outdoors enthusiast and a licensed New York State Guide (License # 1474), who enjoys all aspects of the outdoor experience. He has competed in snowshoe racing in the winter Empire State Games in Lake Placid where he won 5 gold medals and 4 silver medals in the 1990s.
Aprill is a full time journalism professor at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He lives with his family in an out-of-the-way place in the Adirondacks.
