School budgets, candidates up for vote today

---- — Voters go to the polls today to weigh in on school budgets and board candidates.

Here are names and numbers from schools around the region:

AuSABLE VALLEY

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $29,677,914, up 4.85 percent.

Tax-levy: $12,523,222, up 3.8 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.44 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $16.64, up 3.8 percent.

School Board candidates: Term A: Scott R. Bombard; Term B: Susan J. Richards and Charles A. Potthast Jr.; Term C: David B. Whitford.

Vote: Noon to 9 p.m., Middle/High School cafeteria.

BEEKMANTOWN

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $37,642,566, up 1.89 percent.

Tax-levy: $18,893,157, up 3.5 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.22 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $17.36, up 2.8 percent.

School Board candidates (two five-year terms and one two-year unexpired term): Andrew Brockway, Michael Hagadorn, Richard LaVigne, Ed Marin and Kenneth Maurer Sr.

Proposition: To reduce School Board terms from five to three years.

Vote: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Middle School gymnasium.

BRUSHTON-MOIRA

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $16,906,875, up 1.14 percent. 

Tax levy: $2,816,370, up 4.97 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 7.82 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $17.23, up 6.4 percent.

School Board candidates (two three-year seats): Vitaline LaPage, Joey St. Mary, George Martin.  

Proposition: To purchase two school buses at a cost not to exceed $205,580.

Vote: 1 to 9 p.m., school auditorium.

CHATEAUGAY

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $11,718,039, up 1.81 percent.

Tax levy: $2,800,543, up 4.69 percent. 

State tax-levy limit: 5 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: Not calculated yet.

School Board candidates (three three-year seats): Susan Jones-King; John McCormick; Tony Martin; Kip Young.

Proposition: To purchase a school bus at a cost not to exceed $89,076.

Vote: 1 to 8 p.m., school auditorium.

CHAZY CENTRAL RURAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $9,887,215, up 2.3 percent.

Tax levy: $4,140,605, down 1.99 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.99 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $19.14, up 2.56 percent.

School Board candidates: Term A: Melissa Dudyak and Tim Howley; Term B: Joey Trombley. 

Vote: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., school auditorium.

CROWN POINT

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $6.27 million, up 2.2 percent.

Tax levy: $1.54 million, up 1.89 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 5.9 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $11.15.

School Board candidates (three three-year seats): Michael “Mitch” St. Pierre, Julianne “Julie” Budwick, Kathy DeBrobander.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m. — noon to 1:30 p.m. in the entrance foyer, then 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

ELIZABETHTOWN-LEWIS

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $7,683,421, up 3.53 percent. 

Tax levy: $3,376,592, up 3.99 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.28 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $13.55, up 4.07 percent.

School Board candidate: Karin DeMuro. 

Proposition: To purchase one 30-passenger school bus at a cost not to exceed $66,000.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., school lobby.

KEENE CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $5,564,347, up 4.07 percent.

Tax levy: $4,626,542, up 3.5 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.54 percent.

School Board candidates (two three-year seats): John Haverlick, Heather Odell, Ann Whitney.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., school lobby.

LAKE PLACID

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $17,264,976, up 2.5 percent.

Tax levy: $14,201,792, up 3.01 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.01 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: $6.78.

School Board candidates (two three-year terms): John Hopkinson; Richard Preston; Jennifer Tufano. 

Proposition 1: To lease one wheelchair-passenger school bus for five years at a cost not to exceed $19,000 per year.

Proposition 2: Should trustees of the Lake Placid Central School District be allowed to apply for an additional 10 percent state building aid to finance an energy-savings capital project.

Vote: 2 to 9 p.m., Lake Placid Elementary School and Wilmington Community Center.

MALONE CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $46,524,369, up 4.97 percent.

Tax levy: $12,691,603, up 4.97 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 8.6 percent.

School Board candidates (two five-year terms; one three-year unexpired term): Christine Crossman-Dumas; David Mosier; Edward Lockwood; David LaPlant; Brian Broeker; Dottie Dumas; Melissa Bartenslager; Jerry Thompson; Philip Hans.

Proposition: To purchase five school buses at a cost not to exceed $525,000.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., Franklin Academy gymnasium lobby.

MINERVA CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $5.1 million, up 2 percent.

Tax levy: $3.4 million, up 8.93 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.97 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $10.98.

School Board candidate (one five-year seat): Caroline Kelly.

Vote: 1 to 8 p.m., school lobby.

MORIAH CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $15.1 million, down 1 percent.

Tax levy: $3.76 million, 2.07 percent increase.

State tax-levy limit: 2.87.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $17.80.

Proposition: To buy two school buses for $158,000.

School Board candidates (three three-year seats): Charles “Chuck” French; Ben Winters; one seat no petition filed.

Vote: 1 to 8 p.m., school lobby.

NORTHEASTERN CLINTON 

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $ 27,044,204, down 2.69 percent.

Tax levy: $10,439,733, up 2.75.

State tax-levy limit: 2.75 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $19.90, up 2.95 percent.

School Board candidates (two five-year terms and one two-year unexpired term): Sam Blain, Tammy Gonyo, Martin McCarthy, Orville Nedeau and Gregory Sample. 

Proposition: To purchase one 66-passenger bus, one wheel-chair accessible bus and one van at a cost not to exceed $265,000.

Vote: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mooers Elementary and Middle School small cafeteria.

NORTHERN ADIRONDACK

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $20,521,802, up 10.65 percent.

Tax levy: $4,115,176, up 3.50 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 7.88 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $10.85, up 2.69 percent.

School Board candidate (one seat): Jon Rebideau. 

Propositions: To purchase two 66-passenger buses and one 24-passenger wheelchair-accessible bus at a total cost not to exceed $279,613 and to issue a five-year statutory installment bond for that amount and levy a tax to be collected in installments.

Vote: noon to 8 p.m., Altona and Churubusco town halls, Northern Adirondack Middle/High School and Lyon Mountain Fire Station.

NEWCOMB CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $5.8 million, up 10.4 percent.

Tax levy: $4.5 million, up 24.7 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 7.16 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $3.12 Homestead Act; $16.11 non-Homestead.

School Board candidates: one five-year term, Eleanor Yandon; one three-year term, Marlene Bott.

Vote: 1 to 8 p.m. in school cafeteria.

PERU CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $40,974,046, up 1.19 percent.

Tax levy: $16,047,419, up 3.96 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.32 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $19.42, up 3.96 percent. 

School Board candidates (two five-year terms): Kim Mayer and Kathleen Wyckoff.  

Vote: noon to 9 p.m., Secondary School gymnasium.

PLATTSBURGH CITY SCHOOL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $39,632,807, up 4.81 percent.

Tax levy: $20,326,926, up 2.49 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 5.58 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $22.10, up 2.49 percent. 

School Board candidates (two five-year terms): Kathie Cameron-Murray, Walter Peter Chmura, Robert Dolan, Amelia Goerlitz and Ronald Marino. 

Vote: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Bailey Avenue and Momot elementary schools and Duken Administration Building.

SALMON RIVER

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $29,076,511, up 5.01 percent.

Tax levy: $1,950,881, up 2 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 11.37.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: Bangor, $12.01; Bombay, $385.04; Fort Covington, $12.14; Westville, $14.47; Brasher, $13.35. 

School Board candidates (two five-year terms): Emily Lauzon; Judy Stark; Roger Lapage; Peter Ghostlaw.   

Propositions: To purchase two school buses at a cost not to exceed $210,000 and to include a non-voting student representative on the School Board.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., High School auditorium.

SARANAC CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $31,503,754, up 1.96 percent.

Tax levy: $12,350,618, up 3.72 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 5.62 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: $19.83, up 2.74 percent. 

School Board candidates: Term A: Tracy Allen Waite; Term B: Daniel Ashline-Beaudet and Lori Saunders.

Propositions: To purchase two 65-passenger buses, one 21-passenger handicap-accessible bus and one school van for a total of $373,288.

Vote: noon to 8 p.m., Morrisonville Elementary gymnasium.

SARANAC LAKE 

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $28,080,442,up 2.91 percent.

Tax levy: $19,371,782, up 3.67 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.79 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: Not calculated yet.

School Board candidates (two three-year terms): Esther Arlan, Clyde Baker, Shir Filler and Tracey Schrader. 

Proposition 1: To authorize annual payment to the Saranac Lake Free Library of $137,467.

Proposition 2: To purchase three school buses at a cost not to exceed $330,000.

Vote: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saranac Lake High School.

SCHROON LAKE

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $7.4 million, up 2.17 percent.

Tax levy: $6.1 million, up 2.13.

State tax-levy limit: 2.97 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: Not calculated yet.

School Board candidates (one five-year seat): Tina Armstrong, Bruce Murdock.

Proposition: Buy one school bus for $73,800.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., school lobby.

ST. REGIS FALLS

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $7,760,909, down .59 percent.

Tax levy: $2,812,509, up 2.9 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 5.41 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: $17.62, Town of Dickinson; $17.49, Town of Hopkinton and Town of Santa Clara; $18.61, Town of Lawrence; and $18.1, Town of Waverly.  

School Board candidates (two five-year terms): Mickey Smith; Harry Radcliffe.

Proposition: To purchase one 66-passenger school bus at a cost not to exceed $113,895.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., school lobby.

TICONDEROGA

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $18.5 million, up 3.7 percent.

Tax levy: $10.7 million, up 3.78 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.78 percent.

Tax rate per $1,000 assessed value: $10.15 Ticonderoga; $12.20 Hague.

School Board candidates (three three-year seats): Tracey Cross-Baker, R. William Grinnell, Robert Palandrani Jr., Mark Russell.

Location and Time: Noon to 8 p.m. at Ticonderoga High School and Hague Community Center.

TUPPER LAKE

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $17,233,794, up 7.64 percent.

Tax levy: $7,923,391, up 8.35 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 4.76.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: $13.20.

School Board candidates (two three-year terms): Patricia Anrig; Dawn Hughes; Daniel Mansfield. 

Proposition: To authorize the purchase of two school 66-passenger school buses at a cost not to exceed $230,500.

Vote: Noon to 8 p.m., Tupper Lake Middle/High School.

WESTPORT CENTRAL

Proposed 2013-14 budget amount: $5,505,000, up 1.79 percent.

Tax levy: $3,374,857, up 3.85 percent, under state limit.

Tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value: $14.22.

School Board candidate (one seat): Jim Carroll.

Vote: Noon to 9 p.m., outside Bulles Auditorium.

WILLSBORO

Proposed 2013-14 budget: $7,972,767, up 0.9 percent.

Tax levy: $4,920,645, up 3.3 percent.

State tax-levy limit: 3.3 percent.
