CCC, Potsdam ink new pact

PLATTSBURGH —  A new articulation agreement enables Clinton Community College students to easily transfer into more than 50 majors at SUNY Potsdam.

CCC President John E. Jablonski and SUNY Potsdam President Dr. Dennis L. Hefner signed the agreement recently.

Students who complete an associate of arts or associate of science degree at CCC can now transfer into SUNY Potsdam with junior standing and complete their bachelor’s degree in two years of full-time study.

“Clinton is very excited to partner with SUNY Potsdam to provide this new transfer option,” CCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Cheryl Lesser said in a news release.

“Students will be able to begin their career at Clinton and have all the information they need to complete an associate degree and then transfer seamlessly into their junior year at SUNY Potsdam.”

Depending on the bachelor’s degree program they are planning to transfer into, CCC students complete their associate-degree coursework following advisement guidelines.

Aside from saving money on tuition by completing their first two years at CCC, students who complete their associate degree first are also more likely to be more successful in obtaining their higher degree, saving money in the long term, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

“The excellent preparation students receive at Clinton gives them the edge they need to be successful in their next phase of higher education,” Lesser said.

CCC holds similar transfer agreements with many other SUNY and private institutions, including SUNY Plattsburgh.

The new agreement with SUNY Potsdam is the greatest number of articulation agreements CCC holds with any school outside of SUNY Plattsburgh.
