SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College will recognize the accomplishments of graduates for the 2013-14 academic year at its 47th-annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at Sparks Athletic Complex on the Saranac Lake campus.
The processional begins at 10:45 a.m., and the program will begin promptly at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
The commencement speaker will be Congressman Bill Owens, who has represented New York's 21st (formerly 23rd) Congressional District since November 2009.
Before being elected to Congress in a special election to fill the vacancy created by former-Rep. John McHugh's appointment as Secretary of the Army, Owens had never run for public office.
The Plattsburgh man, who'd been the managing partner of a law firm, worked to promote economic development before his election and has done so since, a press release from the college said.
"We are thrilled to have such a fine representative to the people of Northern New York as Congressman Owens speak at our 47th commencement ceremony," NCCC President Dr. Steve Tyrell said.
"We also couldn't be more proud of this year's graduating class and wish them great success as they continue on their respective journeys."
