PLATTSBURGH — Clinton Community College will be under temporary leadership until a new president is appointed.
On Friday, the college's leader of five years, John Jablonski, submitted his resignation effective, Thursday, June 12.
The CCC Board of Trustees will begin the process of obtaining an interim replacement for Jablonski at its June 17 meeting, according to Chairwoman Nina Coolidge.
"Until the interim president is in place and accepted by the SUNY Board of Trustees, we cannot start the process of a search for a new president," she said.
In the meantime, Fred Smith, who has served as CCC's interim vice president of student affairs for the past academic year, will serve as administrator in charge.
“Mr. Smith has a great deal of experience with higher education and with the SUNY system," Coolidge said.
On Sunday, Jablonski told the Press-Republican he is leaving the college because it is "time for a new chapter."
He said he planned to complete the final stages of his doctorate before looking for his next position.
Jablonski said he would leave his post at Clinton Community with a good feeling about the college.
WON'T REVEAL REASONS
Coolidge said board policy prevented her from discussing the reasons for Jablonski's departure.
“We wish John well in his new endeavors," she said.
CCC Faculty Association Vice President and Information Officer June Foley told the Press-Republican in an email that her union, too, wished Jablonski well in the future.
“The Board of Trustees is committed to the college, educating our students and maintaining the facilities to provide a good education to the residents of our county and all entering students," Coolidge added.
"We will move forward to provide our businesses with students educated to become their employees and to provide students with opportunities to move into employment or transfer to another institution of higher education to complete additional degrees.
"Our administrative staff, faculty and support staff are of high quality and will continue with the committed mission of the college.”
