Area students who have been named to the Dean’s List at Colgate University, Hamilton, are: Hannah Kinney, a graduate of Chateaugay Central School; Alexandra Caudill of Jay, a graduate of Lake Placid High School, and Ian Dwyer of West Chazy, who graduated from Beekmantown Central School.
Michelle Johnson of Keeseville is among the 307 students who graduated from SUNY Oneonta in December.
Erin Miner of Saranac Lake has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in marriage and family studies, magna cum laude, from DeSales University, Center Valley, Pa.
The State University of New York at Potsdam conferred 190 baccalaureate and graduate degrees to students in December, including the following local students: Alyssa Cavallo of Saranac Lake, English 7012 (MST); Harriet Chubb of Hogansburg, special education; Kelly Donnelly of Plattsburgh, curriculum and instruction MSED; Tom Jodice of Dickinsno Center, English and Creative Writing; Cherish LaBombard of Ellenburg, childhood/early childhood education; Emma Leahy of Dickinson Center, childhood/early childhood education; Candice Panetta of Chazy, psychology and Samantha Sharrow of Ticonderoga, childhood/early childhood education.
Ryan Roberts of Cheektowaga, formerly of Bloomingdale, graduated in December from Buffalo State College, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree with certification in social studies 5-12 and a minor in coaching. Roberts participated in a collaborative project involving the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society and Buffalo State College. His project was individually selected from the class’s final work to be included in the Historical Society’s “Underground Railroad Kit.” He worked closely with the society’s exhibits, library collections, primary documents and staff. His work will be utilized by Buffalo local teachers and students as a formal offering from the Education Department of the Historical Society. Roberts is a 1999 graduate of Saranac Lake High School, a 2004 graduate of North Country Community College and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was a basic training honor graduate and was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal in 2005 for participation in relief operations Hurricane Katrina and in 2008 was Communication and Information Airman of the Year 55th Communication Group Offutt Air Force Base. He is the son of Rick and Barb Roberts of Saranac.
Sierra Sky Cotrona, a graduate of AuSable Valley Central School in Clintonville, is the recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award Scholarship at the University of Rochester. The award is made to an outstanding high school student who has demonstrated excellence in the sciences. She is the daughter of Anne and David Cotrona of Jay.
Tomas Hendrix of Ticonderoga has been nominated to represent New York as a national youth correspondent to the 2013 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University. He is a student at Ticonderoga High School. Hendrix will have the opportunity to join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive week-long study of journalism and media. He was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies.
