ELCS bus propositions pass

ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School District voters overwhelmingly OK’d the purchase of two school buses at a referendum Thursday.

The vote was 95-18 in favor of buying a 22-passenger, handicap-accessible bus at a cost of no more than $66,500.

The district will also purchase a 35-passenger bus priced at $53,000 or less — voters approved that proposition 94-16.

Fund balance will pay for the buses, with some state-aid reimbursement over five years.

“The community’s support of Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School continues to be strong,” Superintendent Scott Osborne said in a statement.

“I’m appreciative of the support we’ve received for our fleet replacement plans; we’re taking appropriate steps to be thoughtful in how we use and maintain our buses, and the community recognizes that.”
