---- — ELCS Board continues interviewing candidates
ELIZABTHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, for a special meeting exclusively focused on executive-session interviews with second-round candidates for the combined position of superintendent/principal.
No other board action is slated for Monday’s meeting, according to interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott.
The board had selected three individuals from their candidate pool to participate in first-round interviews. Two have been chosen for round two and will meet with a committee of stakeholders representing cross-sections of the school community.
The appointment is expected in October.
College to sponsor Banned Books Read-Out
PLATTSBURGH — SUNY Plattsburgh students and faculty will read selections from books that have been banned or challenged at some time in history during Feinberg Library’s first-ever Banned Books Read-Out.
It will be held noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the library’s third-floor reading room.
Members of the campus and community are invited to attend at any time during the two-hour read-out, which is being held in conjunction with the American Library Association’s 2012 Banned Books Week.
According to the association, “Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.”

Lecture series to focus on local foreign investment
PLATTSBURGH — The Economic Development Lecture Series sponsored by Clinton Community College and the Development Corp. will continue Thursday, Oct. 4, with Foreign Direct Investment: An Economic Game Changer.
CAI Global Group Vice President Marc Beauchamp will deliver the lecture, which is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Stafford Theater at Clinton Community College.
It will be followed by a panel discussion the importance of foreign direct investment and the EB-5 Visa program.
That discussion will include information on what an EB-5 Visa is, how it works and how it can benefit a region's economic development.
The panel is scheduled to include Beauchamp, Schluter Systems Chief Financial Officer Ed Martin and North Country Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Economic Development Susan Matton.
The event is free and open to the public.
Westport Town Council plans budget sessions
WESTPORT — The Westport Town Council will hold special meetings to work on the 2013 budget.
The meetings, which are open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 4, 4 p.m. Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 and 5 p.m. Oct. 23, all with regular board meetings to follow.
