Police: Mooers man had meth fixings in car

WEST CHAZY — A Mooers man was arrested after precursors for the production of meth were found in his car, police say.

Chazy-based State Police stopped a gold 1999 Saturn on State Route 22 in West Chazy for a vehicle and traffic violation on Jan. 25, according to a press release issued Thursday.

William B. Lafountain, 33, was behind the wheel, police said.

In the car, police found pseudoephedrine and two chemical reagents, specifically lye and cold packs containing ammonium nitrate, the release said.

Lafountain was also found to be in possession of a digital scale and glass pipe with marijuana residue, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, a felony; second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Lafountain was released on an appearance ticket to return to Chazy Town Court on Jan. 29.

Chazy Town Court officials could not be reached Thursday for information on that appearance.

The Troop B Narcotics Enforcement Unit assisted in the investigation, and the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office was advised of the incident.
