Color play: leaving winter behind

PLATTSBURGH — Bold polka dots, geometrics and color blocking can rescue any fashionista weary of dirty snow and blah skies.

These spring trends can be had at Maurices and dressbarn at Champlain Centre in Plattsburgh.

“We have a lot of denim shirts and boyfriend jeans,” said Carly Gagne, a Maurices sales associate. “They are longer than capris and fit looser. It’s like wearing guy’s jeans but with more of a feminine fit.”

Jeans and shorts are electric in primary colors and unexpected pink, coral and orange with white polka dots.

White is blazing hot, as are patterns — plaids, stripes and sailboats.

“We have a lot of tank tops with striped patterns,” Gagne said. “They have a collar on them. We have a lot of denim vests and jackets. They are a light wash. Both jackets and vests are cropped. The jackets are plain and have pockets on the fronts.”

Skirts are rocking dots and stripes while dresses are rippling with butterflies and florals.

“We’ve been selling a lot of infinity scarves,” Gagne said. “It’s a big circle. They don’t have an end, and you wrap it around twice.”

Sunglasses are big with frames of black, brown or gold. Jewelry accessories are in shades of aqua and peach.

Wedgies are still framing tootsies.

“They are all cork bottoms,” Gagne said. “We have black, brown and taupe.”

Sea glass, the various aqua hues that wash up on a beach, reigns supreme at dressbarn.

Coral is also smoking in tops and dresses.

“A lot of dresses are knee-length, sleeveless and some with sleeves,” said Tarran LeClair, dressbarn assistant manager. “Polka dots are in. Our color trends are coral and creamsicle. Color trends are sea glass, coral and creamsicle.”

Blouses with cold-shoulder sleeves (cut-outs above the shoulder) fly off racks.
