Snow-free family fun abounds

Story time,valentines,plays amongopportunities

PLATTSBURGH — Need a breather from the icy stuff?

Well, there’s plenty for you and your family to do, out and about.

Today from 9 a.m. to noon, kids zero to 4 years old can scoot, jump, run and slide at the Lakeside Play Gym at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall located on the corner at 1610 Route 22 in Whallonsburg.

The event is sponsored by the Lakeside School, which can be reached at 963-7385.

It’s a celebration of hats starting at 10 a.m. today at the “Second Saturday Storytime” presented by Bookstore Plus, 2491 Main St. in Lake Placid.

The store offers story time year-round in its children’s department.

“We do it weekly in the summertime,” said Marc Galvin, owner. “We add Mondays, and they are not the same topic. It’s a community outreach to kids in the area. We have a couple of stories around a topic, and we do a craft. Obviously, you want to get kids interested in books at a young age. Having a craft and a couple of books around a topic, they get really excited about reading and getting read to.”

Galvin’s wife, Sarah, leads story time.

“We’re getting blank visors, and they will be able to decorate their own hats,” he said.

John Klassen’s “I Want My Hat Back” and “This is Not My Hat” are the selected books.

“We’re encouraging kids to wear their favorite hat if they have one,” Galvin said.

For more information, call the Bookstore Plus at 523-2950.

Sunday keeps the fun coming with a public swim at AuSable Valley High School at 1490 Route 9N in Clintonville.

The cost is $2 for the public and $1 for students.

If your family likes drama, check out the senior play “Law and Order: Nursery Rhyme Unit by Jane and Jim Jeffries,” presented by Chazy Central Rural School located at 608 Miner Farm Road in Chazy.
