---- — Saranac Lake crews to move snow night and day

SARANAC LAKE — Due to the amount of snowfall in the last 10 days, the Saranac Lake Department of Public Works will take an aggressive approach to removal of the snowbanks in high traffic areas for both vehicles and pedestrian walkways and also on narrow streets in the village. 

Starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday and continuing through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, two crews will work around the clock to remove snow.

People are asked not to park on the streets at night, specifically Broadway, Main and Church streets, and Bloomingdale Avenue between 11 a.m. and 6 a.m. 

“The public’s patience will be greatly appreciated,” a press release said.

Westport School Board meeting planned Tuesday

WESTPORT — The Westport Central School Board will hold a budget session and regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the library of the school.

Topics for discussion include the budget and policy review. There will also be a presentation on the Dignity for all Students Act.

The meeting is open to the public.

Super’s evaluation on Beekmantown School agenda

BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown Central School Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the All Purpose Room at Cumberland Head Elementary School. 

The board anticipates going into executive session from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation and proposed sale of property. 

Agenda items include: a presentation on insurance; retirements and adoption of the 2013-2014 budget calendar.

 The public is encouraged to attend.

LPCS Board to work on budget

LAKE PLACID — There will be a budget work meeting of the Lake Placid Central School Board at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8. 

The session will be held in the Board of Education Conference Room, Administrative Services Center, 50 Cummings Road.

The public is welcome.

Willsboro Board meeting coming up

WILLSBORO — The Willsboro Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the conference room fo the school.

Agenda items include business and finance reports and personnel discussions.

The meeting is open to all.

Scholarships offered for Scottish-style musicians

LAKE PLACID — The deadline for the Scottish St. Andrews Society of the Adirondacks Scholarship is Feb. 15.

The scholarship is for pipers, drummers and highland dancers, and the funds may be used for lessons, band camp or competition fees.

Awards are also available for research in Scottish history, culture and traditional crafts.

Applicants must live, work or attend school in the Adirondack region. Awards will be announced in April.

Memorabilia sought for Girl Scout exhibit

ALBANY — Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is inviting the community to share Girl Scout insignia, ephemera or items of interest from the Girl Scout movement at ToGetHerThere, an exhibition that spans the 100-year history of the organization.

The exhibit will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Albany and is free and open to the public.

Memorabilia items — preferably from 1912 to 1945 — can be dropped off by Feb. 15 at the Girl Scout office at 107 Hammond Lane, Plattsburgh. People should include their name and phone number/email address with the materials, along with any added details about them that may be of interest.

If preferred, arrangements can be made for item sharing by contacting Maegan Frantz, Girl Scout alumnae relations coordinator, at 348-1413, Ext. 402 or via email at mfrantz@gsneny.org.

All items can be returned after the event or can be donated to the Girl Scouts archives.
