PERU — Police continued the hunt on Thursday morning for a man who robbed the Stewart's Shop here on Wednesday night.
The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and dark shoes and fled in a small black or dark-colored car with an after-market rear-fin spoiler, according to State Police Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation Lt. Brent Davison.
"Someone just arriving at the store observed the person leave the store with what appeared to be a gun," he said.
The suspect wore either a mask or a dark-colored garment that covered his face to just below his eyes, the lieutenant said, leaving enough of the man's face showing to identify him as Caucasian.
Police got the call about the robbery at about 10:35 p.m. The sole clerk in the store at 2997 Route 22 told police the man showed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.
The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, Davison said.
No customers were in the shop at the time.
"We're checking leads to include surveillance video from nearby businesses," he said.
That Stewart's Shop was also robbed by a man wielding a knife on Dec. 4, 2011.
Anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspect is asked to call Plattsburgh-based State Police at 563-3761.
