Road Construction Roundup: Oct. 2, 2012

---- — Road construction is under way throughout Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties.

Crews ask that motorists use caution when driving through work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Here is a look at some of the major work occurring this week:

CLINTON COUNTY

Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge, Rouses Point: Crews replaced the bridge deck membrane and bridge joints. Traffic is reduced to one lane and controlled by a traffic light as paving is completed. The project is expected to take until Nov. 30.

Route 11, Champlain: Traffic has been reduced to one lane in both directions from the Rouses Point/Champlain line to Lake Street. Crews are milling and resurfacing the road. Work is expected to be complete by Oct. 12.

Route 11, Ellenburg: Crews is continuing highway rehabilitation between the intersection of routes 11 and 190 and the Mooers/Altona line. Traffic is controlled by signs and flaggers.

Smith Road, Ellenburg: Crews will finish paving operations between Ellenburg Center Road and Plank Road this week. Motorists should expect delays.

Interstate 87, exits 39 and 38N: Bridge work has reduced traffic to one lane in both directions between exits 39 and 38N. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. The Exit 38N southbound ramp is closed, and motorists should follow the posted detour if they want to go west on Route 374 and Route 22.

Route 22, Plattsburgh: Traffic has been reduced to one lane in both directions from Boynton Avenue to Wallace Hill Road. Crews are milling and repaving the road. Work is expected to be complete Oct. 12.

Salmon River Road, Schuyler Falls: Crews are performing road construction, including pavement widening and traffic-light installation, at the intersection of Salmon River Road and Military Turnpike Extension. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

Route 22, Plattsburgh: Crews are reconstructing the road near the Interstate 87 overpass at Exit 36. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Motorists should expect minimal delays.

ESSEX COUNTY

Countywide road construction: Crews are patching pavement in various locations. Traffic is controlled by flaggers as necessary.

Route 9, Chesterfield: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane moving in alternating directions at Trout Pond Road. Work is expected to be completed in late October.

Route 22, Willsboro: Traffic will flow in a single lane in alternating directions from the Willsboro/Essex line to the Chesterfield/Willsboro line due to road construction that will occur until further notice.

Route 86, Wilmington: Traffic will flow in a single lane in alternating directions at the Wilmington/North Elba line. Crews are performing bridgework over the West Branch of the AuSable River. Construction is expected to be completed in mid October.

Old Military Road, Lake Placid: Crews are continuing to reconstruct the roadway. Motorists should follow the posted detour. The detour is expected to be in place until Oct. 19.

Interstate 87, Exit 32: Crews are performing road construction in both directions from Exit 32 to the AuSable/Chesterfield line. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions.

Route 9N, Keene: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in alternating directions at the intersection with Route 73 due to bridge construction. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal.

Route 9N, Port Henry: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in alternating directions from Bridge Road to County Route 2 due to road construction over Grove Brook at Island Way.

Route 74, Schroon Lake: Traffic will be reduced to one lane between Pyramid Road and Hall Street. Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

Countywide road construction: Crews are performing miscellaneous road work. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

Poplar Street, Constable: Crews are repairing a bridge. The road will be closed for two to three weeks. Motorists should follow the detour, which follows Davenport Drive to Route 30 to Stebbins Road to Poplar Street.

Route 37, Fort Covington: Crews are backing up shoulders between Hogansburg and Fort Covington. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

County Route 52, Chateaugay: Crews are reconstructing curbs and sidewalks between the intersection with Route 11 and the Canadian border. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

County Route 8, North Bangor: Crews are reconstructing the road. Access is restricted to local traffic only.
