Community Calendar: May 17, 2013

The Press-Republican events calendar appears every Friday. Be sure submissions reach the Press-Republican newsroom at least one week before the calendar in which they need to appear. 

Items should be brief, listing the time, date, place, prices, a contact number and any other essential information.

All items in the calendar must be open to the public.

TODAY (May 17)

Martha Speaks Story Hour. 10 a.m. Mountain Lake PBS, 1 Sesame St., Plattsburgh. Stories and activities. Register at www.mountainlake.org.

Benefit for Sarah Tromblee. 4 p.m. michigan dinner, 6:30 p.m. auction. American Legion, 11 McCrea St., AuSable Forks. Auction items include signed sports memorabilia, hotel stays, Adirondack furniture, quilts, paintings, gift certificates. Sarah Walton Tromblee, 37, mother of three girls, has breast cancer that is now in the bones, which requires she travel to Atlanta, Ga., Cancer Treatment Centers of America for treatment. 

“Robot Monster” Screening. 7 p.m. ROTA Gallery, Plattsburgh. 60th anniversary tribute of the infamously cuddly apocalyptic fever dream pitting alien Ro-man against Earth’s last six humans. 16 mm, all celluloid. Free. 

Family Game Night. 6:30 p.m., First Congregational Church, 2 Clay St., Malone. Bring favorite board game or join in on games at church. Meal and/or dessert bar.

North Country Squares Apple Blossom Weekend. Plus 7 to 8 p.m., Main Stream and Rounds, 8 to 10 p.m.. Clinton County Fairgrounds, Morrisonville. Caller Corry Lowden.

Adirondack Farmers Market Opening Day. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Behind the Adirondack Museum, Elizabethtown.

Benefit Dinner for Isaac Smart. 5 to 7 p.m. Keeseville Elks Lodge. Chicken barbecue hosted by Mark Burrell. Isaac Smart has a heart condition called coarctation of the aorta. The only treatment is surgery. The benefit will help raise money for expenses the family will incur while in Albany. Cash bar, deejay, raffle, Chinese auction, bake sale.
