Saranac Lake man faces sex charges

SARANAC LAKE — Dakotta B. Callaghan faces sex charges involving a 13-year-old girl and images sent by cellphone.

The 19-year-old Saranac Lake man was arrested Friday afternoon and arraigned in Saranac Lake Village Court on charges of use of a child in a sexual performance and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, both felonies; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Saranac Lake Village Police say their investigation found Callaghan “allegedly induced a 13-year-old female to perform intimate sexual acts, photograph them and send the photographs to him.”

Callaghan in turn transmitted photos by cellphone of himself “engaged in similar intimate sexual acts” to the girl.

Bail was set at $5,000 cash/$10,000 bail bond; he remained at Franklin County Jail on Friday night.
