PLATTSBURGH — Two local lawyers have joined forces to specialize in personal-injury and disability cases.
Plattsburgh-based attorney Mark Schneider welcomed Middlebury, Vt.-based Drew Palcsik as a partner Jan. 1. The firm is now called Schneider and Palcsik, with offices in both Plattsburgh and Middlebury.
The two had worked together in an unofficial capacity for the last three years, Schneider said.
“I realized he adds a lot to the business. He’s a very good personal-injury lawyer,” Schneider said, adding that’s the direction in which the firm is currently headed.
During that time, they had recovered millions for their clients in personal-injury and disability cases. Schneider specializes in Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability cases.
Palcsik said they want to make people aware they can receive top-notch legal assistance locally. They will often seek a firm that practices in the larger metropolitan areas because they believe that’s the only way to find the best possible representation.
“We think people should know that’s what we do,” Palcsik said.
While they are often successful in reaching a settlement before a trial starts, Palcsik said, they are willing to go the distance for their clients. The partners are prepared to go up against the large firms based in major metropolitan areas.
Schneider and Palcsik only get paid for personal-injury and disability cases if they are successful.
“The best part is our clients never write us a check,” Palcsik said. “We don’t get paid unless they get paid.”
Schneider and Palcsik are always wary of new ways that insurance companies will employ to try to get a share of someone’s settlement award.
One recent case involved a client injured in an auto collision. After they settled the case, the county asserted a lien for almost half of the money awarded
