Students: Dec. 10, 2012

The Northeast Central Labor Council, a coalition of AFL-CIO private and public unions, awarded scholarships to Michelle Cressey (UUP), Cameron Keysor (CSEA) and Julie Withrow (UUP). The awarding of the scholarships is an annual event open to all Labor Council members and their families.

Jenna Ruff, daughter of Jon and LeeAnne Ruff of Peru, graduated in May from Harvard University with a degree in neurobiology with a citation in global health policy. After working for Support for International Change in Tanzania as the summer volunteer coordinator, she is now working for the United Nations Federation in Los Angeles. She is also the freshman/sophomore girls basketball coach at Santa Monica High School. Ruff will be applying to medical school next fall.

Christine Allen of Saranac has been named to Biola University’s spring 2012 Dean’s List for academic excellence. To qualify, students must have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credit units and have a cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2.

Several local residents will be graduating at SUNY Oswego’s Dec. 15 commencement: Owen C. Kelly of Morrisonville, with a master’s in business administration (public accounting), Bruce W. Balch of Saranac with a master’s of science in technical education and Leif P. Sorgule of Saranac Lake with a master’s of science in technology education.

Alexandra Inslerman of Saranac Lake graduated from Buffalo State with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Inslerman is a graduate of Saranac Lake High School.

Rimple Bal of Plattsburgh has been named the 2012 Just Move It Ambassador to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. Along with her family and friends, Rimple led the run/walk/bike/skip in October at ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Burlington, Vt.

Colin Delaney, son of Brian and Karen Delaney of Lake Placid, was inducted into the Saint Michael’s College Alpha Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society.
