Citizens to participate in anthrax drill

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Health Department will conduct a full, functional anthrax drill from 1 to 3 p.m. today.

The trial run will be held at the Senior Citizens Council, 5139 North Catherine St., Plattsburgh.

The primary focus is to determine the “through-put” of Clinton County residents in the event of a real emergency, according to a release from the Clinton County Health Department.

In the event of an emergency that would require the dispensing of life-saving medication, all 82,000 residents would participate.

The target group for this drill is senior citizens. Volunteer participants were required to register online ahead of time.

The registration allowed for the use of the New York State Clinical Data Management System, which determines the type of medication that would be dispensed to individuals based on a series of medical screening questions.

About 30 Health Department staff will participate in the drill, along with representatives of the Medical Reserve Corp and 75 pre-registered “victims.”

People who have questions about the drill can contact the Health Department at 565-4840.
