WILMINGTON — A two-bedroom cabin was destroyed in a fire here Saturday afternoon.
The Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 5481 Route 86 at 1:26 p.m., Fire Chief Louis Adragna said.
“We were on scene in 3 minutes,” he said. “When we got there it was fully involved.”
The furnished cabin, which included a kitchen, was located in a heavily wooded area behind the Wilderness Inn, but the 25 firefighters who worked to extinguish the blaze were able to contain the fire, Adragna said.
The structure was a total loss, he said.
The cabin and about four others are rented out by the Wilderness Inn year-round, Adragna said. No one was renting the cabin at the time of the fire.
There were no injuries.
Adragna said the owners of the Wilderness Inn have insurance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
The Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department was back in service at about 4 p.m.
Upper Jay provided mutual aid to the Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department and the Lake Placid Fire Department was on standby at their station.
