PLATTSBURGH — First Weekends will be hosting a holiday event Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, in downtown Plattsburgh.
A tree-lighting ceremony and free live music will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 on the corner of Brinkerhoff and Margaret streets.
First Weekends is working with Primelink, Kmart, the North Country Center for the Arts Center, ETS and the City of Plattsburgh to organize that event.
From 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 7, Plattsburgh’s inaugural Polar Express will occur at Champlain Valley Transportation Museum.
The event will include a reading of the book, an old-fashioned train car and holiday activities for families.
On Dec. 7, Plattsburgh Yarn and Gifts at 16 Brinkerhoff St. is offering a hand-spinning demonstration at 2 p.m., given by Heidi Fortsch of Brown Dog Fiber Arts and Tom Wagoner, a local fiber artist.
First Weekends, a nonprofit corporation, is collaborating with the Transportation Museum to bring this new event to Plattsburgh.
“We want to build a community full of traditions that will maintain and attract more families,” First Weekends Board member Carrie Ann Rollier, owner of Nelson’s Flower Shop, said in a news release.
“First Weekends believes in cultivating relationships with different types of businesses in order to revitalize our downtown area.”
