United Way accepting applications

PLATTSBURGH — The United Way of the Adirondack Region Inc., which serves Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties, is accepting applications from agencies and organizations wishing to become a partner agency of the United Way for fiscal year 2014.

Obtain the necessary paperwork at the United Way office, 45 Tom Miller Road, or by calling 563-0028. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

All applicants must be a 501-C-3 nonprofit organization and show proof of certification.

Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.


E-ZPass tags available at grocery stores

ALBANY — E-ZPass tags are now available for purchase at the customer-service counters of all Tops, Wegmans, Price Chopper and Hannaford stores.

E-ZPass tags, which charge drivers as they pass through New York State Thruway toll booths without stopping, have a $25 value and are active upon purchase.

The first $15 is immediately available for toll usage, and the remaining $10 becomes available once the tag is registered online or by phone.

E-ZPass provides a savings of 5 percent on all Thruway tolls and is accepted in 15 states: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia.


Saranac Central sets new meeting date

SARANAC — The Saranac Central School Board meeting set for Dec. 2 has been canceled.

The next session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the District Office.

Meetings are open to the public.
