NY state hosting tourism summit to boost economy

Associated Press

ALBANY — New York is trying to cash in on some of the state's oldest natural assets with one of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's newest governing tools.

The governor is holding a "tourism summit" in Albany Wednesday with employers and experts to map out a better way to showcase New York's seasonal attractions and boost businesses statewide.

The focus will range from summer attractions such as the Adirondacks, Niagara Falls and the Erie Canal to the rebuilding of boardwalks and beaches on Long Island hit hard by Superstorm Sandy last fall.

Cuomo has held previous summits to boost the Greek yogurt industry as well as the beer and wine industries. At each event, he has announced some regulatory change or other action intended to kick-start the business. A similar announcement is expected Wednesday.
