Recovery effort continues; help needed

Major roads remain closed in Essex County

ELIZABETHTOWN — Traffic is still restricted on three major Essex County roads due to flooding damages and construction.

Route 86, Wilmington: Traffic has been restricted to a single lane moving in alternating directions at the Wilmington/North Elba line in the Wilmington Notch. Roadwork will continue until further notice.

Route 9N, Keene: The road is closed to all traffic in both directions between Route 73 and the Upper Jay. The closure stems from damage from Tropical Storm Irene and will continue until further notice.

Route 73: The road is closed from the intersection with Route 9 all the way to St. Hubert. The closure stems from damage from Tropical Storm Irene and will continue until further notice.

Elizabethtown Council calls special meeting

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Town Council will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the Town Hall to discuss flood-damage issues.

The meeting is open to all.

Help needed with manual labor in Jay area

JAY — The Town of Jay Supervisor's Office is seeking volunteers to help those still in need of manual labor.

Jobs would include moving items out of people's basements, packaging, shoveling mud out of cellars and more.

People who are interested in helping are asked to contact the Town of Jay Supervisor's Office at 647-2204 or 647-2201 as soon as possible. Leave your name and number for a list being compiled to help residents.
