Mooers man charged with sexual assault

MOOERS — A Mooers man faces sexual-assault charges in connection with a 12-year-old girl.

State Police reported they arrested Michael C. Mangarillo, 55, on Tuesday. He was charged with predatory sex assault against a child, a felony.

During an investigation of allegations against him, members of the State Police Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation found he had allegedly sexually abused the girl in 2012 and 2013.

The girl, who lives in New Jersey, was known to Mangarillo and was visiting his residence at the time of the abuse, police said in a press release.

State Police secured a warrant and searched the home on Tuesday, where, the release said, they secured evidence that corroborated the girl’s allegations.

Mangarillo has been a state correction officer since 1988 and currently works at Altona Correctional Facility in the Town of Altona, police said.

He was arraigned in Mooers Town Court and sent to the Clinton County Jail without bail.
