Border expected to be busy this weekend

CHAMPLAIN — Monday is a civic holiday in Canada, and officials are expecting a busy border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is offering guidance on how to expedite border crossings for travelers returning through the Champlain ports of entry:

▶ Prepare for the inspection process before arriving at the inspection booth.

▶ Have your Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative or Radio Frequency Identification documents in hand before reaching primary inspection.

▶ Travelers should declare all items acquired abroad.

▶  End cellular phone conversations before arriving at the inspection booth, and remove any sunglasses or hats.

▶  Visit the “Know Before You Go” section of the website www.cbp.gov/travel.

Chapel roof to benefit from fundraiser 

PLATTSBURGH — Fundraising is continuing for repairs and renovations to the roof of Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel, located on U.S. Oval.

Advance tickets are available for the Meadowmount Benefit Concert set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the chapel.

Priced at $15 each, they are sold at Plattsburgh locations: the Party Factory in Plattsburgh Plaza, Aubuchon Hardware in Skyway Plaza, Cook & Gardner at 139 Tom Miller Road and Cornerstone Bookstore, 110 Margaret St.

Tickets will also be available at the door, with lemonade and cookies served on the lawn at intermission.
